Laser plasmas
Laser-produced plasmas are generated by a high-energy laser pulse focused on a target surface. Laser-produced plasma studies are inspired not only by the desire to obtain a complete picture and understanding of the associated physical processes associated with its formation and evolution, over a wide range of parameters, but also to develop and exploit many of the possibilities of laser plasma application.
Some of the most widely used applications of laser-produced plasmas are: pulse laser deposition for thin film synthesis, nanoparticle synthesis for a wide range of applications, as the EUV / XUV light source for photolithography of new generation, as a radiation source in ion accelerators, etc. Furthermore, laser-produced plasmas have a very wide application range for sample analysis or process monitoring in the so-called laser induced breakdown spectroscopy. In a special case, low-ionized laser-produced plasmas are used for the development of attosecond pulses by generating high harmonics with femtosecond lasers.
